 INTRODUCTION

The distinguished youth’s program was founded by Apostle Barney Mulenga, who is also the founder and overseer of bible way ministries international, Ndola, Zambia.

The term “Distinguished Youth Group” comes from the Bible in Daniel 6: 3.

“Now Daniel so distinguished himself among the administrators and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him, that the King was of the thought to set him over the whole kingdom.”

To be distinguished is:

  • To have the ability to serve.
  • To be respected and very successful.
  • To be outstanding among others.
  • To be excellent and to do so well that people notice and admire your life

The Distinguished Youth Group carters for all youths within the age ranges from 15 to 35 years. The group engages in the following activities:

  • Annual National Meetings
  • Debates (fortnightly)
  • Quizzes
  • Sports
  • Educational Tours

These programs / activities are designed in such a way that they don’t just promote and enhance spiritual growth, but also develop the educational and social aspects in the life of youths.

The Distinguished Youths Group has a full leadership structure that is headed by a patron and matron (Mr Mulesu & Mrs Kalumba), a youth pastor (Pastor Chishimba), and a youth executive leadership team.

Distinguished youths should ensure that they cultivate a Word (Bible) based lifestyle. Their attitude / conduct should be shaped by biblical principles.

A member of the distinguished youths should be a genuinely born again believer.

The following qualities should be evident in their lives:

  1. Kingdom minded
  2. Faithfulness
  3. Ability to build Capacity in other youths.
  4. Good character
  5. Competence
  6. Good communication skills
  7. Confidence
  8. Able to absorb negatives

 The first Distinguished Youths program was held on the 24th April, 2017. This program mobilized different youths from different tertiary schools from around the city of Ndola to come together. The topics discussed were:

  • Peer pressure.
  • The importance of keeping one’s virginity.

Regarding the above topics we discussed the:

  • Causes
  • Impact
  • Effects
  • Solutions

The Distinguished Youth program is held every year to discuss different issues faced by young people and every meeting held has been successful.

THE DISTINGUISHED YOUTH GROUP IS A MINISTRY OF ENCOURAGEMENT & EMPOWERMENT.

WHY THE DISTINGUISHED YOUTH GROUP EXIST

The distinguished youth Group seeks to help youths to cultivate a positive and cautious approach in life. Life presents a wide range of circumstances which require one to make choices. Youths need guidance in terms of career choices, partner choices, college or university choices, and other choices in general.

But among other choices, there is one choice that is a choice of destiny – the choice to be distinguished. For one to be distinguished, there is need for him or her to develop and exercise mental, physical, social, and spiritual discipline. For instance, in the Bible we see Daniel demonstrating such qualities of discipline, Daniel 1: 8

“But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.”

Daniel exercised self-discipline and made up his mind that he would not defile himself. He had an excellent or fine spirit. Apparently, his character was good and as a result he was distinguished.

A distinguished person is:

  • A person of purpose – focused on destiny.
  • A person of prayer – dependent on God.
  • A person of perception – seeing beyond today.
  • A person of power – authority over circumstances.
  • A person of good character – unwavering stance.

This aim of this program is to help youths to cultivate such qualities and bring them to the realization that there is potential in them which can be maximized to make a positive impact in society. They can also be distinguished like Daniel.

FUTURE PLANS

In order to consolidate the Distinguished Youth program we plan to establish a capacity building center where youths can undergo short training in leadership, governance, IT, entrepreneurship, psychosocial counseling, public relations, etc.
